יואב לירון וארז הבשלנים המופלאים
In the cabin we quickly discovered that Yoav, Liron and Erez are much better at cooking and meal planning than us. Not that we can't plan nice meals, we just know that we don't really care, we just hate shopping so much. We have the alpine climbing mentality when it comes to food: light and fast, or none. We had no problem eating instant noodles and oatmeal for over a month in Tibet, but that may explain why we lost about 7-10 kilograms (20 lbs) each at that point. Anyways, they have amazing food supplies that are unknown to us. As we waited out the storm in the cabin, we had milk tea spiced with cardamom and amazing chocolate.
As they opened up their food stashes, we saw fresh vegetables, olive oil, tons of spices, tea cups and bowls, a frying pan and even a grater and a garlic press! Wow, we really stink. We thought we were good carrying two pots and separate mugs, so we don't just eat out of the pot. Shoot, we need to diversify a bit.

סיפור החור בדשא ואיך יואב המומחה לסינית מציל את המצב
Well, our fire last night left a bit of a hole in the grass near the river where we slept. We were certain not to camp on anyone's private land, but in the morning a couple of enterprising locals tried to get us to pay to fix the hole, claiming that this was their field. Yoav, who is the best Chinese speaker, explained that we didn't really want the fire to begin with; it was the idea of the local men who visited us last night, and apologized about the hole.
But soon he caught on that these guys were just trying to make a buck. So after a while their theatrics got a bit tiresome, as they threw around grass and started yelling. They threatened to get the police, which seemed like the perfect solution to us, so when we didn't react with fear and hand over money, they lost hope and left.

Amazingly enough, Liron had just learned how to ride a bike before this trip and was a little bit uncertain if she would be able to cycle on a really bad road. Pretty impressive to go from the first time on a bike to a 4,000 km bike ride. No more excuses from anyone who doesn't know how to ride a bike! We were able to ride up the road, but it was rough and slow going, but not so bad.

At this point, Liron and Meredith decided to go scout out a place to sleep, while Keith and Yoav played pool and Erez did some writing in his journal. We found a great spot down by the river and waited until dusk to start to set up, since we were close to a small group of houses. While we were setting up, we were visited by a group of local men, that were very happy to see us. Yoav, Liron and Erez all speak Chinese fairly well, so they had a long conversation. The end of the conversation led to Erez and Yoav driving away in the men’s car and returning with firewood

After picking up some food for the ride, we headed to where we were supposed to meet our driver at 3:00 pm. As usual, 3:00 pm turned out to be more like 5:00 pm, but that was okay for us. As we piled in the van, along with 6 other Kyrgyz men, we realized this could be a long ride. We were pretty packed in there, which wasn't too bad; the only problem we would soon find out was the lack of windows, as in zero that opened besides the driver's. Given the fact that it was about 95 degrees Fahrenheit outside, this wasn't the best news.
Yoav and Erez were really hot in the way back seat. Finally, when they couldn't take it anymore, Yoav pretended he had to throw up so the driver would stop the car. As he was out doing his business, Erez went to work on the door. He shoved their Ridgerest in there and tied the sliding door open, so we could get some air. The driver wasn't too excited about our plan, but he let it go...for a while anyways. Finally we had some air! We think everyone was relieved with the fresh air, since it flushed out the sulfur smell of stagnant farts which had filled up the bus! Yoav did learn the Kyrgyz sign language for stop farting is the good news! We arrived in Bishkek about 4 hours late, but it was a fun ride....
